Barreca & La Varra architects, Milano
Nell’ambito della ristrutturazione del comparto industriale destinato a ospitare RCS Mediagroup, nella periferia nord-est di Milano, è appena stato ultimato B5, il nuovo edificio per uffici realizzato dallo studio Barreca & La Varra. Parte integrante di un masterplan che tende a definire gli elementi per un villaggio del lavoro intellettuale, B5 contribuisce al processo di trasformazione degli ambiti di produzione al margine della città.
Milano, 21 novembre 2011 – Lo studio milanese Barreca & La Varra, protagonista, insieme ad altri progettisti di riconosciuta fama, della ristrutturazione dell’intero comparto industriale RCS Mediagroup di Milano, ha appena ultimato l’edificio per uffici conosciuto come B5 nel programma di intervento.
La storia del masterplan mirato alla riqualificazione e all’ampliamento dell’area occupata dai vecchi uffici e dagli stabilimenti tipografici di RCS (situato in via Rizzoli, a nord est di Milano, nei pressi del fiume Lambro) risale al 2001, quando Boeri Studio (che era composto da Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca e Giovanni La Varra) vince il concorso di progettazione a inviti. Insieme, gli architetti realizzeranno l’edificio C, un corpo basso a corte aperta che si conclude, verso il Lambro, con una torre di diciotto piani. Nel 2007, mentre il personale di RCS comincia a occupare gli spazi di lavoro nella torre, inizia la progettazione di due nuovi edifici che riprendono e prolungano la corte aperta della torre, uno dei quali, il B5, porta la firma degli architetti Gianandrea Barreca e Giovanni La Varra, che nel frattempo, nel 2008, hanno fondato lo studio Barreca & La Varra.
L’edificio B5 manifesta un carattere originale rispetto agli altri edifici del comparto, pur partecipando attivamente al suo programma. “Ci interessava che il comparto avesse un aspetto di unicità e continuità di materiale -spiega Gianandrea Barreca-. E quindi, una volta realizzato il primo edificio con una facciata di matrice vetrosa, ci è sembrato interessante continuare a perseguire l’obiettivo dell’omogeneità materica.” Questo nuovo intervento di Barreca & La Varra, destinato a ospitare, oltre alle redazioni di testate del gruppo RCS, anche teatri di posa per la fotografia e spazi per il settore multimedia, è frutto di una elevata professionalità applicata in tutte le fasi di intervento.
Realizzato in classe A, l’edificio B5 è un volume parallelepipedo di cinque piani avvolto da facciate di vetro che, nella loro composizione, richiamano l’immagine di un codice a barre. Sono le facciate l’elemento centrale del progetto: un dispositivo che permette all’edificio di istituire un preciso rapporto con lo spazio urbano al suo contorno, così come di favorire la più elevata flessibilità e qualità spaziale degli ambienti di lavoro.
La facciata si compone, infatti, di una teoria di elementi verticali che alternano i toni del bianco a quelli grigio e nero, con l’eccezione del piano terreno dove è dominante il nero.
La tessitura di ciascun piano è sfalsata rispetto a quelle dei piani adiacenti. Lo sviluppo in altezza è scandito da elementi marcapiano neri. “La scelta di lavorare sul recinto -continua Giovanni La Varra- è dovuta al fatto che, in una zona di margine come quella sulla quale sorge il comparto, ci sembrava interessante consolidare il fronte strada, creare un nuovo segnale urbano e territoriale”. La facciata di B5 persegue l’idea della misura e della metrica; i singoli elementi in vetro -ora opaco ora trasparente- che la rivestono, la loro disposizione ordinata e l’omogeneità delle loro dimensioni riferiscono di una percezione dell’insieme controllata e cadenzata. L’edificio non sfugge alla capacità di misurazione dell’osservatore, anzi denuncia una determinazione precisa alla commensurabilità e alla comprensione della sua ritmica. Fra gli elementi verticali opachi si inseriscono le aperture a vetri degli uffici, riparate da un sistema di frangisole che fuoriesce dal piano della facciata e contribuisce a donare dinamicità al profilo dell’edificio.
