Cathrine Vigander e , Vidar Knutsen sono i due partner quarantenni di Element Arkitekter, uno studio creativo sempre impegnativo ai confini tra architettura, design e arte. Element ha un approccio interdisciplinare ad ogni nuova avventura con particolare interesse verso soluzioni ecologicamente efficienti. Nasce da questa filosofia il progetto denominato ”Teachers’ House” che ha visto la realizzazione di un edificio con sala conferenze così come richiesto dalla committenza nel bando di concorso.
Lo studio Element attribuisce bizzarramente soprannomi a tutti i progetti in corso d’opera al fine di sottolinearne il concetto caratterizzante l’intervento. Il termine coniato per questo eidficio è Smykkeskrinet (contenitore di monili) e si riferisce sia all’opera d’arte sulla facciata principale dell’edificio sia alla grande sala conferenze, i quali creano insieme il cuore formale del progetto.
La sede principale dell’Unione della Pubblica Istruzione Norvegese si trova nello stesso isolato del sito di progetto e necessitava di un ampliamento degli spazi. Da qui l’idea di un concorso per un edificio con una funzione complementare al vecchio per ampliare le strutture esistenti. La facciata verso la strada, punto di forrza del progetto, trasmette con efficacia l’importante ruolo dei clienti e la responsabilità dell’educazione dei giovani norvegesi rappresentati da lettere che riflettono i simboli disegnati dell’artista Sannes Jorunn.
Sinteticamente l’obiettivo del progetto è stato quello di adeguare il progetto agli edifici vicini e creare soluzioni energetiche efficienti anche atraverso la grande apertura composta da due strati di vetro con la stampa applicata sulla parte esterna del vetro interno.
Un caso interessante dunque dove la funzione dell’arte raddoppia per aumentare la protezione solare e ridurre il calore interno. Nella hall d’ingresso c’è un pezzo d’arte tessile di Maggio Bente Aronsen. Questo ha una importante funzione acustica che nasce dalla necessità di riequilibrare le prestazioni acustiche a causa dell’utilizzo di superfici in calcestruzzo a vista usate per raggiungere gli obiettivi energetici.
Questo edificio presenta un consumo energetico inferiore a 80kWh per metro quadrato all’anno e conta 10 ”pozzi” di energia posti nel retro della costruzione. Il calore del sole attraverso la facciata principale in vetro a sud-ovest e nord-est è raccolto nella massa termica di cemento e conservato nei pozzetti di energia da utilizzare durante l’inverno. In estate l’acqua fresca è raccolta dai pozzi e distribuita attraverso la costruzione. Inoltre, i tubi a LED sono realizzati nel corrimano della scala principale e nel soffitto esterno, che utilizza una quantità minima di energia.
Ottimizzare il progetto ed educare gli utenti a gestire il sistema porterà in futuro il consumo di energia verso un’ulteriore riduzione. Inoltre è giusto considerare che con il tempo i componenti possono essere cambiati: ad esempio la pompa di calore sarà sostituita con una pompa di calore C02 che consuma solo 1/6 della energia elettrica della pompa di calore attuale. Questo porterà il consumo di energia fino a circa 50 kWh per metro quadrato all’anno. Smykkeskrinet è collegato alla rete elettrica di massa dell’edificio esistente e può trasmettere energia in eccesso quando ne produce troppa. In altre parole, Smykkeskrinet è un edificio a zero emissioni che con il tempo diventerà un edificio a bilancio energetico positivo.
